Board Message @ BAS

Dear Aqaurist,

President's Message

Our speaker for March was the one and only Joe Ferdenzi. Many of you know Joe as the President of the Greater City Aquarium Society (our sister club in Queens) and Joe has been the President there for more years then even he wants to remember. What many of you do not know is that Joe is also an author, a world wide speaker, a aquarium fish judge for Shows of aquarium fish and plants, an award winning fish breeder and an historian of the aquarium hobby and of the individuals (of which he is one) that made our hobby great. Joe's topic for the evening was "The Romance of Aquariums". Joe provided an excellent slide show and had enlightening side antidotes on the reasons why and who were the main people that made the aquarium hobby one of the best in the world. It was a great evening and a very special education for all of us.

April not only brings Spring showers but will also bring our own Steve Giacobello. Steve is a professional photographer and a teacher, who happens to teach photography. This will be a very special event because Steve will actually teach the members how to take fantastic pictures of your fish and plants. He will be using actual photography aquariums that help optimize the aquarium fish for better color and digital presentation. As amateur photographers and just people who love fish photos you will obtain a wealth of knowledge at this event. As always there will be an auction and raffles of aquarium products and dry goods. The auction shall feature both freshwater and marine items and there will be plants as well.

I had mentioned on several occasions that our 100th Birthday is coming in 3 years. You will be hearing and seeing a lot more as our birthday draws near.

I am asking for your help and support. If you want to see different speakers or try different things please let me know. The elected officials of the Brooklyn Aquarium society are here to serve YOU! Please let us know what you want and why you want it would be helpful also.

For more info please call our new and improved BAS Hotline at (718) 837-4455, or visit our NEW website at WWW.BROOKLYNAQUARIUMSOCIETY.ORG.

On a more personal note - This is your club and we are looking for interested and helpful members to participate! Any member who desires to attend a Board meeting, which are held at the Education Center of the New York Aquarium on the 1st Friday of the month, please notify me at (718) 238-1792 by the Tuesday previous to the meeting.
